The Cave

Started today driving North from Reykjavík towards The Cave, a volcanic cave in Western Iceland.
We've toured a many caves and mines, but this is the first volcanic cave I've seen, so it was definitely a new experience.

This cave has an interesting origin story. It is said a gigantic worm traveled through a valley filled with volcanic rock, leaving a cave. Or the alternate story: a volcano erupted in c. 900AD. the eruption wasn't vertical but a split from the side. Magma filled the adjacent valley (making it flat), and the flowing magma eventually formed a long, linear cave as the flow of lava stopped possibly five years later.

Advice for visitors: dress warm! The guide explained that caves tend to be the annual average temperature of their environment. This cave was 32F, much colder than caves I've visited before.
