Lagarfljót

Continuing our tour of Eastern Iceland we visited Lagarfljót, a lake formed of glacial runoff.
What struck me the most is how silent it was at the shore of the lake. Occasionally I could hear a car making its way down the road across the lake, but otherwise you could hear a pin drop.

As in the other rivers flowing from glaciers, the water has a mikly appearance. We think this is "rock flour" created by the glacier grinding against the rock surface underneath.

Waited for a while but didn't spot the terrifying Lagarfljótsormur (Sea Worm), a mythical inhabitant of the lake a la The Loch Ness Monster. Maybe next time.
