Day Three - Leaving the Fjords

Day Three - Leaving the Fjords

We got in very late and couldn't see much around our apartment rental in Suðavík. The view in the morning was amazing!

Front view.
Side view.
View out the back.
Our apartment from across the fjord.
One of the few legal turnouts we found gave a 360 degree view of two fjords.
The white dots on the island are seals. Easier to see with binoculars.

Many people will tell you that Iceland has amazing hot dogs. They are sold everywhere and are usually lamb and beef and served with fried onions, if desired. I am not a hot dog person, but my first Icelandic hot dog was really good. Lunch was at a supermarket/gas station, then we went to the Museum of Witchcraft and Sourcery in Holmavik.

On to the Hvítserkur stone formation. Hvítserkur means a troll with a white shirt (due to bird poop). The drive was on an unpaved road over the mountain.

We started way down the mountain by those tiny white houses.

The road got worse the closer we got, but it was another gorgeous view when we got there. And another aspect of Iceland - a black sand beach.

Taking the path down the cliff to the beach.
The black sand is lighter than regular sand.
Sheep returning from their ocean outing.
Hvítserkur

So, is it a troll or does it look more like a donkey with a large load taking a drink? Some think it looks like a dragon.

On to Akureyri.
