Day Nine - Reykjavík

Day Nine - Reykjavík
Rainbow street in Reykjavík.

After waking at 4:00 am to see if the clouds had miraculously cleared (they hadn't), the rest of today was about rest and a bit of exploration. Robin chose to rest so Rachael, Rob, and I went out to see what we could see.

Our first stop was the Settlement Exhibition. While doing some work on one of the oldest buildings in the city, which included lifting the building off its foundation, evidence of a previous structure was found. It turned out to be the oldest settlement in the city dating back to 871 or so. The longhouse was preserved in place and a museum was built around it. I didn't take too many pictures.

A projection of a mouse in a hole. Not 100% sure why.
At one point the buikding that started it all was a grocery.

We ate lunch at a Pho restaurant because we were tired of the same old ham and cheese, fish and chips, hamburgers, pizza, and lamb soup you find every where. And not good ham either - processed lunchmeat ham. We then went to a flea market because Rachael wanted an Icelandic sweater. And we bought a few more souvenirs for people back home.

Loved this pig outside a bar we passed.
Trying to shelter from the wind. You can see that it found us.
An interesting building made to look like basalt columns were used on the outside.

Reykjavík is full of tourists from bus tours and cruise ships. It was sunny and windy and people were happily shopping away.

Dinner was at "Plan B Burgers." They do a good "smassburger" and their fries are very similar to McDonalds. We then walked for ice cream.
