Ásbyrgi canyon

Ásbyrgi canyon
Ásbyrgi canyon, Iceland

We took a tour of Ásbyrgi canyon, formed a glacial flood through a lava flow. Notable are the sheer vertical cliffs.

At one end is a birch forest. This is notable as we rarely have seen stands of trees since we've been in Iceland.

Within the canyon is  Botnstjörn pond (bottom pond).  A very peaceful place thst serves as a nesting area for sea birds.

The pond is home to Widgeon, the only species of duck in Iceland. Theybremind me of dicks back home.

On the way out we drove by Eyjan, a  feature within the center of tje canyon.  There was a steep trail to climb on top but there weren't enough votes to stop and do it.
